Growing up we heard a lot about the Holocaust. My mother couldn't let it go. Age 12 when it began she heard the bombings and saw people taken away. She wasn't Jewish but the little boy next door -who would later be her brother in-law - and his grandmother were. In her eighties she disappeared one night.
Not once but many times my mother wept for what she saw and later knew of the war. She was a very compassionate lady.
My father took a different approach. He remained mostly silent. It was only on his death bed that I found where he was born - Zatory, Poland - and the names of his parents.
He joined the army at fifteen, before the war began and so saw an entirely different side of it. From the war he brought back with him the graphic books of the concentration camps. He'd lost one of his sisters and both his parents in that war. How I don't know - he never said.
In this country they have lost their lives. In the end feable, still fighters, as a family we fought against a system of racketeers. They're not uncommon. An alotment of organized criminals grouped against the trusting / the educated / the innocent for everything you have. My family and I were one household, one mindset. These groups are not unlike what happened in Europe. But it's one unknowing / unsuspecting family at a time.
My fight now is how to fight back. Have you or anyone you know been involved in such unsuspecting circumstance where and found council legal council who can win such legal issues. One with the similar compassion and history as your own.

I was very interested and gratified to see information about my cousin, Yaakov Viernik, on your site. I spent over thirty years tracking him down after the Eichmann trial appeared in the Jewish Daily "Forvitz". My grandfather, Nathan Warnick, was a first cousin to Yaakov and read the reports of the trial each day. When Yaakov was first mentioned in the paper, I was in Grampa Nathan's kitchen as he read Yaakov's name for the first time. He gasped loudly, and everyone present wondered what had happened because Grampa Nathan did not display emotion easily. Slowly the story came out via my grandmother, but Grampa Nathan would not try to contact Yaakov whom he thought had perished with the rest of the family that originated in Kobryn, Poland. His sense of guilt was so overwhelming that he would not talk about it to anyone.

I was consumed with interest about Yaakov - Jankiel - and without the help of the www started to research him back in 1962. Information was very scanty but I learned slowly about cousin Yaakov's role in the Treblinka uprising. When I finally got a computer and learned quickly how to search, I found the Ghetto Fighter's Museum in Haifa, Israel on the internet. There, I was able to research their archives and found pictures of cousin Yaakov. The first time I saw a picture of him, I became faint; he was like an identical twin to my Grampa Nathan right down to the full head of white hair and square face.

Five and one-half years ago, I finally visited the Ghetto Fighter's Museum in Haifa after having made contact with them. I had been there for my first grandson's Bar Mitzvah, and took that opportunity to see the model of Treblinka that cousin Yaakov had built with such care and incredible precision. I was even allowed to go inside the protective fence and touch the model. I felt as though I had finally made contact with my long-lost cousin, as I whispered to him, "Yaakov - you are not alone anymore. I have come to take you back into the family that you thought you lost."

Thank you for your work on my cousin Yaakov. My aim is to write a book on my search for him as a memorial to what he went through, and what he finally accomplished after the Holocaust.

Below is a research request appeal which I recently submitted to the Gazeta Polska newspaper and with which I hope I can be helped by their staff and readers.

On behalf of an established and mainstream UK author and expert on the SS 14th Galicia Division, who is interested in that division's short-lived Kampfgruppe Beyersdorf, which fought General Kovpak's Soviet 1st Ukrainian Partisan Division in Eastern Galicia and the Carpathian Mountains in early-1944, I am trying to establish:

WHO was the, presumably German. 'Police General' based in Przemysl in the early months of 1944 who reportedly oversaw German military operations against the Kovpak partisans in that region and who were ANY of the known senior German Police commanders?

WHICH German military and Police units were based in the town in the first half of 1944 and is anything known of their anti-partisan operations?'.

I would like to conduct some research and to compile a www.feldgrau.com forum item and, perhaps, an article or two for other mainstream outlets, using information from your website's Pzremysl page and other pages and hope that you can grant me permission to utilise such information.

I also hope that your colleagues can help me and the above author, Mike Melnyk, to identify the anonymous 'German Police general in Peremyshyl (sic)' for whose identity he has, for over twenty years, been searching. I have Mike's authority to conduct these queries on his behalf.
